INSPIRATION - MAPS AND NETWORKS III

During some research we stumbled across a series on Netflix that has a collection of documentaries. The series is called Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On, the first episode you meet a director called Erika Lust. Within the documentary episode she has an interview, and gives her opinion on porn saying that she thinks porn is mainly aimed at men, for the pleasure of the men, on screen and off. Erika then goes on to say that she produces are own films where she likes to create films around the woman's pleasure, receiving it and displaying it, rather than it being just for the pleasure of men and woman having to fake it.

Danielle shared some interesting facts with me about Erika lust:

  • In December 2014, Lust hosted a TED-talk at TEDxVienna. In the talk, entitled "It's Time For Porn To Change", Lust urges people to question the modern state of porn, its messages and role as a sexual educator.
  • The TED talk launched the start of her campaign #changeporn, an online campaign intended to challenge and change the porn norm.
  • She graduated university in 1999 with a specialism in human rights and feminism
  • Lust is currently producing short pornographic films based on crowd-sourced stories. Viewers can leave anonymous confessions on the project's website. Each month, Lust handpicks two stories and turn them into cinematic short films.

After watching this first episode I continued to watch the series. It is a really good series definitely worth watching just through an interest point of view, and educational. I enjoyed seeing a powerful woman in the media industry wanting to make a change in the way porn is shot and perceived. It is reassuring that powerful woman are standing up to women's pleasure in the industry and trying to empower female pleasure.

I hope you enjoy, thank you.
